Sudden Volume Loss

Sign in to disble this ad
I was rehearsing the day before a gig with my Highway One P-Bass (the new updated model if that helps or is of importance to anyone), and all was well. The next night at the gig, my bass had hardly any volume at all. If I cranked my amp, I could hear my bass, but just barely. Point being, that sound was coming through, and that it wasn't just "dead". I know nothing about wiring and such, but I was wondering:

A) What the problem might be.

B) Would it be something I could fix myself (keep in mind I know nothing about wiring).

My guitar player thought maybe the ground wire was detached or something...please help.

Thanks.

Firstly, is it the bass or the amp? Plug into a different amp-does it work? Plug a different guitar or bass into your amp, does it work? Gotta start there.

something is wrong with wiring ,thats would be better option, worse could be that your pickup is dead...

Does it have active pickups? If there's a battery in your bass it might be dead. It's happened to me and almost wasted money going somewhere to try to fix it.

The amp was fine, I just ended playing the whole show with my jazz bass. I also tried the bass through my combo amp we were using as a monitor (SWR WorkingPro 15 which worked very well as a monitor for anyone looking at these). Its a passive bass...so no dead battery. I don't think the pickup is dead entirely, because there was some sound, although very faint.
