Suggest a preamp replacment for the Spector TonePump

I've got a Euro Spector and I really don't care for the TonePump preamp.

I'm looking for something that can give me a master vol, blend, and some sort of useful EQ that would work well with the Spector.

I play rock music, fingerstyle 95% of the time and I use a pick for the other 5%.

I WILL NEVER SLAP THIS BASS. If I did, the TonePump would probably be right up my alley!

I've been looking at the EMG preamps, and if someone has a Bartolini that sounds good for Spector I'd consider that too.

I want bite and cut to assist with my fingerstyle playing, but I don't want it to be brittle.

Any suggestions?

Had a Chec Spec but don't know if it had a tonepump cause only kept it for a week. Don't know the tonepump but sounds like a scoop setup if so you should be able to engage disengage it.

Had Bart and EMG 2 and 3 band pre's and did outboard side by sides with them in FAQ Dimento's "onboard" pre experiment. Most onboard pre's are fairly transparent so fairly colorless so splitting hairs.

You might try something outside the bass that you can plug/unplug and play. Lots of advantages over anything onboard - the only disadvantage is no onboard control.

Alot of Spector tonepump users have switched over to either EMG or Aguilar pre's in its place. I think I'm going to go all EMG on my Euro LX.

I've been thinking about that too.

If you don't mind me asking, who does work like that for you here in the city? I don't really know any "guitar techs" here...
