Suggestions for pup mounting foam

Sign in to disble this ad
Like where to buy small pieces and/or what durometer and what type of rubber (neoprene, open cell, closed cell, etc

Lastly, anybody experiment about any tonal differences with the pickup coupling to the body by using very dense foam or by a solid mount (like a block of wood under the pup)?
TIA

I use campershell gasket material. Sticky back on one side approx 3/4" wide, comes in a roll. It can be bought at any automotive parts store. One, two, or 3 thicknesses work for me depending on the pu cavity depth.
I too am interested in finding out if using a wood block underneath the pickup has any effect.

For me, for many years, NOTHING works better than cutting up a mousepad and using that - I just stack the pieces and crank the screws down, giving an extremely solid mount that can still be adjusted form time to time if needed.

I had high hopes for this closed-cell sponge rubber tape I got at the hardware store. (Where they keep stuff for weatherproofing doors & windows.)

Alas, it seems to have too much "memory" for bridge mute use.

Seems OK with pickups, though. IME 1/2" is a great width, but is often too much for thickness. (Easy enough to trim, though.)

Closed-cell 1/8" packing foam can be nice for a deep pickup in a shallow rout. Seems to spring back well, and of course you can double up.
