Superheavy Duty Cables

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.

Usually I use monster cables, or those old fashioned coil-y ones.

However I recently sat in with a band and the bassist gave me his cable to use for the set. It was a super heavy duty cable with a metal dealie around the plug. It was an angled jack if that helps.

I really like them and I want to get them, alas, I forgot to ask their bass player what they were.

Any opinions on what it might be or what I'm looking for?

You might have better luck if you describe the 'metal dealie' that was on the cable.

Was it the Planet Waves cable?

no it wasn't :-(

The 'metal dealie" looked like a big cylinder another metal piece running along for maybe 1/2 an inch down the cable.

The cylinder was probably around 3/4 of an inch thick.

On one of its flat sides it had the plug.

I didn't see the other end of it as it hooked up to the amplifier which happened to be far away.

Is it like these? (Neutrik NP2RCBAG - also available in Nickel finish and TRS) I build these with Canare 4 conductor shielded cable - shield grounded on amp side only - available in lots of colors.

You can use heavier cable, but this stuff is flexible, holds up very well and is very well shielded. I also use WBT silver solder. The straight plug is Neutrik NP2C-BAG. I buy all my components from Martin at Full Compass Audio in Wisconsin.

The dealie was most likely just a strain relief. Like a coiled spring or something?

Just get Bayou cables or someone similar to make them for you. Not expensive.

Yeah, Bayou cables is the hook-up. He makes the cables in the color you want, at the length you want, and with your choice of terminators - including metal dealies. The quality of his cables is at or beyond Monster or Planet Waves at half to 2/3 the price.

I have also been making custom cables for many bands & musicians (over 200 last year) in my sleepless nights since the late 70s. Instrument - Mic - patch bay - whips - headphone extension - stereo - speaker etc. etc. etc. If anyone is interested - PM me. I will put my cables up against the biggies too (and yes, I have some to compare with)

BTW - This is NOT a business with me! I make cables for my friends - and I feel TB'ers qualify. I have really enjoyed visiting here! Making cables is my stress therapy - headphones on...great tunes...and doing something creative & constructive.

Here's your cable BBB!
