Swap position of EMG 40DC and 35P ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive got an Esp Ltd 5 string with 40DC in the bridge position and 35P in the neck. A lot of Modulus tend to have the 40DC in the neck, so Im wondering if the 35P is really a "P bass" type pickup that is happier only in neck position or whether folks have experience with the 35P at the bridge.

Take the pickups out and see if they have the quick connects on the back. They should, and that would make a quick experiment very easy and solder free.

The EMG P really is a "P" under the plastic cover but the coils are opposite to a fender style P (The bass side is closer to the bridge).

My Spector has 40 DC's in both positions and I LOVE the tone with both pickups balanced. With the neck soloed it sounds good as well, but with the DC at the bridge soloed it sounds thin, harsh and clanky. The P at the bridge might add some nice thickness.

Edit: Are you sure your bass has a 40DC and 35P? EMG 35's are four string pickups and 40's are for fivers. You probably have a 40DC and 40P.

Thumbs up

Here is comparison of misc positions for 40DC/40P5/40J:
http://www.voila.pl/000/yqypw/ (just import project into Reaper and listen what you want as combo).
Have fun!

(IMHO 40P5 bridge - 40DC neck sound better like vice-versa)
