Swapped the HZ's out of my Schecter today

I went with the Basslines SSB's and I'm real happy with the results. Compared to the HZ's, the highs are smoothed out. (not so harsh when slapping)

A little higher output.

The lower notes sound much tighter and defined. The neck pickup soloed has a nice buttery sound. I dare say close to a P bass with proper EQ.

The neck soloed has the right amount of snot without sounding thin, and mixed together, a nice smooth modern sound.

they look better too!!

If you want that Schecter to really sing replace the 2 band preamp and put in a 3 band preamp. Preferably a preamp with sweepable mids.

I had a Schecter c5. It was a beautiful bass. It sounded great until I played with a band. They it got lost in the mix. So I sold it.

I swapped the pre last year with the EMG 3 band mid-sweep circuit. I'm in good shape

How do the mids sound in comparison? Is that ridiculous honk gone? Any better snarl with the SSB's? Less flub on the bottom?

mids are smoother, and as far as the "flub" you refer to, that has thghtened up nicely. Better bite..

May I ask how difficult it was?
I have a Schecter Studio 4 string with EMG-HZ and I really want new pickups with a more aggressive sound.

Simple.

Your pickups are wired to the blend pot. ( if i remember correctly) no need to mess with the circuit card. I re-wired my Elite right after I got it to vol/vol so it was even easier this round. there are alot of wires packed in there you wil have to move out of the way

You installed passive pickups right?
Would I have to install 2 more batteries for active EMG pickups?

I swapped my HZ's out in favour of a 40P5 (neck) and a 40J (bridge). I have tried DC's in there too, didn't like them. At the moment, im considering selling my 40J pickup and throwing another 40P5 in the bridge as that seems to be 'my sound'.

All in all, I hear very little (well, no) good things about HZ's. For me, the full EMG 40P5's are what it all about.

I also removed my 2 band EQ, it just wasn't working for me. I want a Nine Inch Nails sound, and it just wasn't cutting it. I now have V-V-T with a three way selector switch allowing me on hell of allot of freedom.

Oh yeah, I also have a Schecter C-5

There is still one thing I need clarification on:
The EMG-HZ uses a 5 wire connector, while the active EMGs use a 3 wire. Do I need to buy a new connector, or can I just use the 5 wire connector for the 3 wire EMG?

I hope what I just said was clear enough.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing about the connectors. I also have a 5 string Schecter studio and was going to change the pick-ups. I don't know what to. EMGs?
