Swapping out my Mk1 preamp for an OBP-3

I'm a little frustrated with the electronics in my Ocean. They're Bartolini Mk1s, just like the legions of Corts, Ibanezes, and Laklands out there. The pickups are great, but the preamp is kind of noisy and doesn't really add much to the tone, no matter how I tweak the EQ.

What I'm thinking is I'd like to replace the Mk1 with an OBP-3TK/PP and wire up the EQ on/off switch as a bypass switch. That way I'll have 3-way EQ, a push-pull for mid frequency selection, and then a switch to go into passive mode.

Has anyone else done this before? How does it sound?
