Which Switchcraft jack for active Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I need a new output jack for my Fender Jazz Deluxe, but I'm having a bit of difficulty deciding which one. I have seen Switchcraft mentioned as a good make on here before, so I thought I may as well stick with them, as I dont know any better .

They seem to have quite a few open jacks on their site, and I'm not sure which ones would work, or be best suited. I saw one mentioned as best used for input on effects pedals, so I'm guessing there must be a difference?

The bass is active and has three tab thingies, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

2 Tabs, a normal guitar input jack is just a standard Mono Jack. you are looking for a Stereo Jack. The reason there is a difference is that the stereo jack will be able to turn the power on and off when the bass is plugged, or unplugged from its cable.

Let me get you a direct link here..give me a second.

The actual switchcraft website has a pretty horrid setup, so i just found it elsewhere, but that will do you fine, and the part number is there if you just want to call switchcraft yourself.

Great, thanks for the reply. It makes a bit more sense now , I had wondered what Mono and Stereo meant for me

I've never really been a fan of the "mono" and "stereo" terminology with jacks. I prefer "TS" and "TRS" instead.

A "mono" jack with just the tip and sleeve terminals is generally always mono, but a "stereo" jack doesn't always mean a stereo signal.
It can also be used to switch the power on and off for a preamp or other electronics in a bass (By shorting the ring terminal to the sleeve when a "mono" guitar cable is inserted.) or it can be used to pass a balanced signal, with the ring terminal functioning as the "cold" terminal.

Thanks for the extra info. I bought one of the Switchcraft ones like the link above earlier on today. I had to buy it from the US (probably could have bought one here, but I wanted to use Paypal), so I wont be seeing it for a while!

Oh yeagh, the Switchcraft site is no fun at all for someone with limited (at best) experience.
