Switches versus pots question

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a Jazz Bass Special recently. This bass is 25 years old so some of the elctronics had issues; namely the selector switch.
The toggle switch has three detents
Position 1: Neck pickup only
Position 2: Neck & bridge pickup
Position 3: Bridge pickup only

When in position 2, the bridge doesn't work, but it works in position 3.
My question is, you know how pots can be cleaned and returned to normal working state?
Can the same be said about toggle switches, or is a switch something that needs to be replaced when it acts up?

Just like with pots, it depends.

If it's just a crummy connection, then yeah, cleaning it could help.

It could also be a case of replacing it being easier.

I just ordered a new switch. I figure it's just easier.
