Switching P pup pots to 500k

Sign in to disble this ad
I am wondering if this is do able.

See I have another thread:
Need help picking P Pickup

And it is about replacing my Yamaha's RBX170's P pickup
I've got it narrowed down to a Basslines/Seymour Duncan QP'er 3 and a DiMarzio Split P DP127

Now on to the pot issue I have a 250k pot now and I'm wondering if I choose the DP127 and get 500k pots what will it do to my Jazz pickup? Whould I need to change my jazz pickup pots too?

Also where the Hell can a guy find 500k pots and materials for my luthier to stick a pickup in (Tape, Wire, Foam, etc)?

IIRC, 500k pots will make your signal brighter and probably a little louder. so you could get away with keeping the pot on the jazz pickup but i would suggest replacing it too, just to keep the volume equal between the two pickups.

So I should replace both pickup volume pots to 500k and I willl open up all the D P127 potential, O.K. that sounds about right.

Only what will it do to my jazz pickup besides make it's tonal properties equal in volume to the other pickup? Will it significantly gain highs will it loose singnificant mids or even all the lows? What would happen if I left it as is?

Also, where can I buy materials to do this? Like pots, shielding tape, and the such.
