And probably way too many factors & pickiness involved-- but:
I have a BB5000 my baby. I got it the day they were released and had it modded to a Bart front (Precision split) pick up and a Bart 3 band, keeping the stock Yamaha back pickup. I love the tone and have done a lot of recording sessions with it. This is my first bass that I, me, all by myself, have played so much that I wore through to paint on the back of the neck...
But I digress. On to the real question:
I wanted to go to 6 string and got a Brice 6. It was a struggle going to the 35" scale and more of a struggle to find flats for it ( I use flats on the BB also, but D'Addarios, while the Brice has La Bellas). But now that I am used to the neck I really prefer the feel of the 35" scale- less cramped. I think the tone on the Brice is a bit papery. Kind of thin as compared to the BB.
My first question is this- is it worth it to mod this bass? I like it, but when I go to try other basses, they all have round wounds. So I don't knwo if any others would be worth the money. I had some upper end basses before but they were all slappers or piano basses- very clean but no real sort of upright sound.
I really like the hi fi Precision sound- that's what the BB does. I want to knwo how to get it from the Brice- Should I get bart pick ups and a Bart pre? is there something better. Am I going int he wrong direction? |
