Switching pickup covers?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have a Washburn Taurus, and I'm pretty happy with it. I like the feel of it, the neck, the look, and the swept back tuners, but I feel like I could get a better sound out of it. Unfortunately Washburn put nonstandard size pickups in it for some reason and I'm not trying to do any routing.

Not knowing that much about pickups, I was wondering if it was possible to take that actual functional bits of the pickup and put them in one of the Washburn's pickup covers. Or would this sound really bad? And if this isn't viable solution, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Provided the pickups are smaller than the Washburn pickups, good thinking! You could use modeling clay to hold everything in place in the covers to try it out and find the sweet spot. If you like it you could epoxie it for a permanent hold.
