Swith for active/passive

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everybody,

I have an Ibanez SR885 and I was thinking about adding a switch to be able to switch between active and passive. So yesterday I checked the control cavity and I saw that the '+' from the battery is not only going to the preamp board, but also to each pickup.

Does this mean that the pickups THEMSELVES are active and that the board is probably just the active EQ? So I won't be able to use the pickups without 9V power? No disaster, but I just would have liked to have the option and use the preamp as an 'on bass' boost.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Greets

Julio

If the pups take battery power, then they will not work as passives.

Spambot pretty much said it all. You could probably do a preamp on-off switch, but there's really not a whole lot of advantages with that. Only one I can think of is to turn the preamp off

Thx for the reaction guys. I already thought this would be the case. No worries, another good reason to buy a boost pedal
