SX Jazz 5 Fretless --- pickup recommendations

I bought an SX Jazz 5 fretless last week and I'm really enjoying having a fretless in my possession. I was a little disappointed with the deadness of the flatwound strings so I was doing a bit of research and ended up buying some Ken Smith Compression wound strings. Put them on the bass and I like the brighter mwah, but things still sound rather dead and lacking in sustain.

Has anyone here upgraded the electronics on an SX Jazz basses and, if so, what pickups did you use and are you satisfied with the results? Did you find pickups that fit without modifications to the body or pickguard?

Hey Craig,

My SX jazz is a 4 string but I dropped in some Dimarzio Js and the difference is very apparent. Very clear and ballsy, gets that really good growly J sound. Made all the difference in the world. You might try some of those if they make a 5 string version.

From what I've heard the SX 5-string J-pickups have really weird dimentions. Supposely they are 5-string pickups but are the same size as their 4-string pickups which makes finding replacement very difficult.

That's the main reason why I stay away from SX 5's.

I've got an SX 4 that I put Dimarzio Ultra jazz and Model J in it (one of each) and it's wonderful.
