SX Jazz bass PU replacement.

Howdy all, sorry I this has allready been covered, but the search function requires a 3 letter word, so I couldn't search "SX".

I am wanting one of those SX short-scale, Jag bodied jazz basses ( http://www.rondomusic.com/product1851.html ), but I know I will want to ditch the stock PUs for something better. It says the PU dimensions are 3 5/8" x 3/4", But I seem to remember the bridge PU being a tad bigger on a standard Fender Jazz Bass. So is it safe to assume that a set of Duncan 1/4lb, or Bartolinis would not drop right in the SX's? Does anybody make a set that would?

I have one of the SX P-basses, and it's a great bass, but replacing the PU really brought it to life.

I love my Basslines Hot and Vintage. I think these fit just fine.

Thanks.

Hmmmm, according Duncan, their bridge PU is 3.705". With the SX quoted at 3.625", I'm wondering if there is enough 'wiggle room' (.08")to fit it in there. My skill with a dremel is....less than professional, so I would rather not have to modify.

Has anybody around here swapped out the stock PUs in their SX jazz-style bass? I'd like to know before I shell out any dough...

i know on www.bestbassgear.com you can order the barts at the same lenghths. a standard jazz bass has two different pickup lengths, so most jazz sets have pickups of two different lenths.keep this in mind

Thanks Matt, are they the only ones who make equal length aftermarket PUs?

You might want to wait until you get it, the (jazz) pickups they use sound pretty nice.

I'll definitely give them a shot, but the PU in my SX p-bass was terrible; all klakety klak when played with a pick, which I do most of the time.

The SX pickups in the Jag really surprised me - they have an "earthy" growl that reminds me of my '76 Thunderbird - especially when you play hard.

Fender Noiseless pups will drop into the SX Jazzes no problem. The only problem you may run into is the pickguard may need to be shaved a tad, but that's easy with a sharp knife.

By the way, search for "essex" and you'll get tons of stuff. That's the way around the "at least three letters in a search" rule here.

I know for the Jazz 5-strings there are no simple drop-in replacements. Lucky for me, I love the sound of the stockers.
