SX P/J wires?

Sign in to disble this ad
Took apart a P/J SX last night to fix some issues and the wires popped off the split coil pot.

Anyone take a gander under theirs and see which color goes to which?

I could figure it out by trial and error just would rather cut down on errors.

I just had my pups out yesterday when shielding my SPJ Ash. Looking at this pic jarred my memory. IIRC, the negative (black) wire connects the two. *edit* just realized you weren't asking about the pups themselves, but the pots. Hope this helps anyway! White (positive) wire from the split coil goes to the center lug of the pot.

Thanks Mike. Picked it up local for $40 and it is a wreck. Damn truss was all the way backed off, the nut cracked in the turning of the rod, the string tree went flying and I need a different screw.

I might suggest while you've got the PG off to replace those SX pots with CTS 250k's..what a difference. Factory wiring was bad.

Very true. I'm still dealing with the mechanics at the moment and I want to see if the pickup works before dealing with the rest of the electronics.

Planning on routing this to be a pickup/electronics test bed.

Just follow the signal path. P bass (and even PJ) wiring is very simple - it should be easy to see what each wire's purpose is. If you don't know how the wiring works, don't try to fix it before you do. Do a little research and you will be able to figure it out.
