SX P-pickup: volume unbalanced

I know its a cheap instrument and I shouldn't expect much, but has anyone else had volume inconsistencies between poles in there split-p pickup SX's? My problem is with the G string pole. I have adjusted the pickup so high that it is almost hitting the string (while all the others are set at the normal heights) and it is still much quieter than the other strings.

I'm not looking for a solution here, as I will be replacing it promptly with an old Basslines that I have anyway. I'm just curious if this is a common problem.

I recently worked on a P on which the bottom coil/pup was damaged.

The fact that the E & A strings were fine, the D slightly down & the G almost inaudable is indicative of the bottom coil being unsound.

In the bass above, we sent the whole pickup for rewinding and when it returned everything was as it should be.

Check the wiring or Change the pick-ups

My short scale SX P has the problem you described. Very low volume on the G string. I changed the pickups to Bass Lines Quarter Pounders, lined them up directly below the strings and raised it as high as possible under the G. It seems ok when played quietly at home, but when I try it at a gig I still can't hear the G string. I wonder if the problem can be solved by changing the rest of the electronics, or if it is just a resonant dead spot in the design of the bass? I find the A and D strings to be the loudest and I have lowered the pickups there in the middle.

I have a Cort Artisan 5 with the same problem. 2 soapbar pick ups. I assumed it was a bad pickup & have been trying to determine which one it is. How could bad wiring only effect one string?

A propos of the above, I found that the upper (bass side) pickup not only picked up(!) the Ea & A strings, but also the D string quite well too. Only the G string was out of range and very weak, but it was there. the pickup on the trebles side was found to be open-circuit & needed re-wound.

What *I* don't get is, if these were supposed to be wired in series, then there should not have been any signal at all. ???!!!
