I am considering buying the same bass from all the hype I hear on them, a lot of players on TB say the stock pick ups sound pretty good already so I would wait and see if you like the stock ones before shopping around for new ones, that is what I am going to do. if not it seems that the quarter pounders are popular around here. hope that helps.

+1

I'm rockiin' my SX PJ stock and loving it. I don't really use the bridge pickup, but the split-coil pickup is anything but thin and gives me a nice old school thump with a set of chromes.

From what I've heard/played the stock P should give you what you're asking for. I'd replace the J with a humcancelling one, my favorite for a single bridge in a P/J is the Seymour Duncan STK-j2b (hot stack) because if it's high output. If you want one that's close to a traditional 'J' sound look at the Nordstrand NJ4SV or NJ4SE.

If you gotta replace the P, I think a Nordstrand or Fralin would be my choice.

I don't have a P/J configuration on my SX, but I put in a pair of Carvin humbucker J's and an EMG BQC into my SX Jazz and it sounds suprisingly good. The BQC is a very tight fit and I had to do some woodworking to get the battery to fit, but the tonal range is impressive.
