They sound like decent pickups. Some love them. Some hate them. Some live with them.

I think they're better than many much higher dollar replacements.

The sound clips on this site comparing an SX with a US Fender are astounding. Since I am not a big Fender fan, I immediately replaced the stock SX pups with Dimarzio. Did it twice and liked the result. That may be a knee-jerk reaction, but it's mine.

In my opinion, the P pickups sound really decent. The J pickups are a bit thin and nasally.

I'm pleased with the pups in my bass. They're a good value, considering the price of the bass.

The SX p-bass pickups are ok but I don't like the SX jazz pickups.

the p pickups are the best thing about sx basses, and i really don't mind the j's either, although my experience with them is limited to a bridge pickup on one of my two sx's. i don't think they sound cheap at all. they do have high polepieces, though, so if you're prone to banging your strings into the pickups they're not the first pickup you'd choose.

IMO, the SX J pickups are a bit honky/nasal in the midrange. The word 'unrefined' comes to mind. Much prefer the sound of the 9CBJS replacements.

Based on the sound samples I've heard, they're better than what you would expect from the pickups on a $100 bass.

Hard to compare when there's not a lot of $100 (new priced) Fender-styled basses out there.

I was saying that I wouldn't expect much from the pickups in a $100 bass.

I put a MIA Fender P pickup in my SX P and immediately put the stock pickup back in and sold the MIA. They sounded pretty much the same, but I liked the SX pickup better.

I put Dimarzio Model Js in my SX J and spent a day or two messing around with series and parallel wiring, I still liked the stock pickups better so they went back in.

there actually 100$ +sh so your looking at more like 120$ give or take, i find for that price its to be a decent sound i would rather check craigs and try to find a "better" which is subjective bass.

I think the SX Jazz pickups sound great when compared to either a 70's Fender with stock pups or another 70's Fender with Model J's

You could cut a top 10 hit record with any of them

To me, the P pickups have a lot of output, with plenty of high end. Maybe somewhat similar to SD Quarter Pounders... NOT vintage sounding. But, of course, the tone knob works to tame that, if desired.
From seasoned soundmen, I've gotten nothing but compliments on the tone.
I have no experience with SX Jazz pickups.

I think they are great pickups, considering the price of the basses. Many here have swapped them out for aftermarket pups, and put the stockers back in shortly thereafter.

I modded the beejeesus out of one of my SX Jazz basses. I literally swapped out *everything*.... except the pickups. I like them.

Actually I found the J pups are quite aggressive. I was gonna change them out when I got thebass but decided I liked them once I tried them. It really depends on the sound you are looking for.
