Any use the Duncan Antiquity pickups? Are they much better than the Fender replacements? I'm upgrading my Squier and trying to decide which pickups to go with. I place Allot of Classic rock.

I just put a set of SD Antiquity II jazz pickups in my US Fender Jazz. I was so blown away by the depth of bass, growl & punch I decided to build a Warmoth Jazz bass designed just for those pickups. Don't get me wrong I like Fender stock jazz pickups over most others & I've tried at least 15 sets in the last 2 years but the SDAII's blow them all away.

Just curious. Which ones have you tried?

EMG J-set & JV-set Their OK, very clean & bright. Basslines(SD) STK-j1 vintage good! STK-j2 hot but not that great & the Quarter lb. Jazz just have no mids. Lots of punch & growl but you wont push past 2 mean guitars with em. Dimarzio Ultra jazz I didn't like cuz the mid-low mids we're weak. The Model J is one of the best on the market you can't go wrong with it. Nordstrand NJ4 I loved it. Lindy fralin Jazz set are the most balanced & true to your bass I've come accross (my band liked them alot). his shop is down the street from my house so I could come in & test whatever I wanted & try different things. He will stop at nothing to help you get your perfect sound & has some of the best customer service ever! Fender 60's custom shop is a good pickup the cobalts are not. In the end The SD-AII's had the best of everything going for it & nothing I didn't like. I play metal, folk, shoegazer, stoner rock & indie rock. I need one set of pickups that could do it all & they do it well.

I had a PJ set of the SD Antiquity. I wasn't happy with the low end so I switched out the P for a Fender 62 Original. Could not be happier. Sweet mids, low end, everything.

I put a pbass antiquity II pups set on a bass and was totally amazed how perfect the fat, growly round bass sound was.

I have a "raised A" Antiquity pickup in my CIJ '57 PBass and Antiquity II pickups in my fretless CIJ Jazz Bass. Simply put, the Antiquity II is more aggressive while the Antiquity has a mellower tone compared to the OEM pickups. They definitely "improved" the sound of both basses.
