Is it for aesthetic reasons or are you like me and like to rest your thumb on the pickup?

Well i prefer to rest my finger on the pickup but i don want to modify the body either. I havnt had any luck finding new pickups. Im thinking i may need to get some custom made or something. Hopfully someone on this site has a line on what i need.

I'm also interested in such pickups. The biggest reason I don't like P pickups is because of those little tabs. Although I've noticed on some fender-style bodies, the tabs are flush with the pickguard so they don't get in the way of your thumb.

Good luck to you in your search.

I've built a bass from rough lumber club #2 (I'm pretty sure).

Couldn't you just buy new pickups and use them with the Yamaha covers?

Care to explain?

This bass doesnt have a cover for the pickup like many others do. Im still not sure if a normal p pickup would fit right.

Why are you wanting to change them in the first place?

It kind of does, actually. If you're looking for "just something different" versus a repair/rewind versus a total overhaul to a vastly different tone, I would suggest different places to look.

Overall though, I'd say contact some of the more well known repair/rewind guys for quotes on either modifying that one or making a custom to fit the covers if you find out that the pickup under the cover is non-traditional in size.

Im just looking for options, thats all. I see your point but if i jut wanted repair/rewind i would have asked where to have that done. So far i think theres 2 people who have said they could make some for me. Im assuming theres not a place to just buy them.

Pull them out and take precise measurements of the actual pickup assembly inside the covers and/or of the inside dimensions covers themselves. Compare that to your standard size P pickups. That'll give you a good idea if anything will fit or not.

Sure, it's a little labor intensive, but I don't have an old Yamaha hanging around to test it for you or I would! I'm curious now.

Yeall ill probably end up doing that. Heck, if a regualr P will fit and so will a yamaha pickup cover i may just go that route.
