Taking out Barts & Pre, going passive. Which pot value?

I have a warmoth/Fender Jazz with 2 MM style pups. It currently has barts in it with a bart Pre (not sure which model). Not near enough output. I still have to try turning the pre up on the inside but if that doesnt make a miraculous difference its all going.
I'm going to go with some sort of Duncan probably. I still have to research who all makes MM style replacements besides Bart, Duncan and EMG.

ANYWAYS....The main question is if I go straight pups and pots with no pre i will obviously get nice audio taper pots. But I want 250k not 500k right? I have swapped guitar guts in and out for years but have actually never messed with one of my basses. So I dont actually know.

Either 250 or 500 will be fine. One is not inherently better than the other. Also, audio taper is not necessarily wanted in all cases.

+1.

Linear taper pots work better for volumes, btw.

^^ Thanks for the clarification.

I thought it got progressively brighter in sound when you went from 250k-500-1meg ? Is this incorrect?

Passive basses and the volume control, an explanation (science warning)
