| My first 5 string was an Ibanez SR1205. It was a wonderful instrument, that had horrible electronics. I replaced both the pre and the pickups, and ended up with a tone monster!! That hard part in finding a good/great instrument, starts with how it feels in your hands. Just as important, IMHO, is how it sounds un-amplified. If you are satisfied with both of those things you are almost there. If I really like a bass for the above mentioned qualities, I wouldn't hesitate and making it the best it could be. If you can't afford it now, save for a while until you can. Of course you could go another route and try an outboard method, (Sans Amp, Sadowsky DI) but for the cost of the pedal, you could install another pre, again IMO, would far surpass the one currently in your SR505
