taming the active eq on a sr505

I love my Ibanez sr505; the feel and playability is simply superb; the tone when playing with fingers is just fantastic and cuts through anything.

However, my band has been moving in a slightly different direction that calls for more mid-scooped, picked bass...

Which is all fine and dandy, but when I leave the 'high' eq knob at flat, I get all kinds of buzz... you knnow the kind where the electronics aren't ground properly.

Is this issue simply a matter of a crappy pre-amp? Or can I tame the high's by doing something with the electronics... ofcourse the CHEAPER the better!

Thanks

My first 5 string was an Ibanez SR1205. It was a wonderful instrument, that had horrible electronics. I replaced both the pre and the pickups, and ended up with a tone monster!! That hard part in finding a good/great instrument, starts with how it feels in your hands. Just as important, IMHO, is how it sounds un-amplified. If you are satisfied with both of those things you are almost there. If I really like a bass for the above mentioned qualities, I wouldn't hesitate and making it the best it could be. If you can't afford it now, save for a while until you can. Of course you could go another route and try an outboard method, (Sans Amp, Sadowsky DI) but for the cost of the pedal, you could install another pre, again IMO, would far surpass the one currently in your SR505

Are they the bartolini pups? I Just got myself a new sr506 string for a great deal this last weekend! Such a versital intrument. It might be the pot linked with a grounding issue, that was the problem with the tone pot on my peavey 5 string. I vowed a long time ago to test drive any intrument before buying, and I find all kinds of things funky with even top dollar models like shecter. I freakin love mine, took about 4 hours of playing/instpecting to figure it out though.
