Tapped Jazz bass pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys

Is there anyone here who has tried a tapped Jazz bass bridge pickup?
I've thought about ordering one from the SD Custom Shop!
Was thinking to have this wound to 8.7 Kohm tapped and
9.7 Kohm full with 42 plain enamel wire, if there is room for the extra wire windings? Possibly might have to use a little thicker "higher" bobbin with longer magnets?

Thankful for any tips and suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

You know, after reading another thread about Jazz and Ric pickups I thought that would be a useful product!

I made a tapped Tele lead pickups and it works very well.

I don't know why taps are not more common. They seem like a very useful feature, and I'm not aware of any major disadvantages from a physics standpoint.

I have a Jazz pickup with a tap at 50% of the winding. I run the tap in series with a highly underwound pickup.

Yes its quite surprising that it isn't more common!, , the only tapped singelcoil I have tried is the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop '53 Tapped Tele Pickup
it's great, two very musical and useful tones SUPER useful when recording!
I intend to do the same with a Jazz Bass bridge pickup!

It would be very interesting to hear how your pickup design sounds a very Interesting concept indeed!

How much underwound is the other pickup if I may ask?
