Tbird Pickups, Correct Pot Values and Cap

Sign in to disble this ad
Working on my P-Bird (P Bass with Thunderbird pickups) and I am trying to match up the correct value of pots and tone cap to the pickups. Here is the measurements that I have on the pickups:

14.26k - Neck
14.90k - Bridge

What value of pots would you use for these pickups? I know that its kind of subjective, so here's my style of music: hard rock, metal. I play most of the time with a pick. Let me know if you need more information.

if humbuckers 500k for pots, which is considered a general rule of thumb but Gibson would use 333k to 500k in some of their older versions.
I like .047 for tone cap, my favorite is Hovland

The DC resistance of a pickup really has nothing to do with the pot values.
You can use any value you want, it's all about your tonal preferences.

I figured that would be part of it. How would the different values affect the tone?

What effect does 1 meg pot have? Also, audio vs. linear

Someone here did a whole scientific analysis on the matter as well, but i can't find the thread.
