Haven't done it yet, but I'm planning a tele bass build in the future. I've been checking out Seymour Duncan and Rio Grande, both make a variety of single coil p-bass replacement p'ups (esp. Duncan, who makes 6 different models, I think). They all look good, but I'll probably end up with the the Seymour Duncan Basslines SCPB2.

oh yeah.... darkstar.

The VM Tele has a humbucker....so I don't think a single coil would be a direct replacement.

That's right and I think even the Darkstar will require at least a pickup ring to hide the routing. I don't know if you'd have to route out the bass body though.

So by the lack of responses, I'm guessing that thier isn't a drop in replacement.

Why not find a vintage Tele-Pickup. There was one on ebay last week. I think it went for about $100.
