Terrible hissing sound

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an audere preamp, 9V classic 4 band, a handbuilt 6 string bass with custom made pickups. The neck position is a jazz 2 wire and the bridge is a 4 wire humbucker. Whenever I switch to the bridge position, humbucker I get a horrible sound that will not go away even if I touch the strings or controls.

When I switch to the jazz pick up I get a hissing sound but not as loud. When I touch the control knobs it lessens quite a bit but not as annoying. There really isn't any ground in here except the brass sustain block that I am using under my bridge. Any idea of how this could be. I've tried a floating ground but it didn't seem to help much. There is paint shield in the pickup covers and I turn the treble down all the way but at high volumes it's still present.

Anything would be of help. Thanks!

I seem to recall that there aren't much grounding involved when using Audere preamps. Pickups are not to be attached to any ground with Auderes. Check out their website for some wiring diagrams...

Did this noise problem just happen all of the sudden?

Well I think that there needs to be a ground unless it could be my pickups that are creating all the noise. I had a Seymour Duncan preamp but didnt like the tonal options I had so I got the audere one. When I installed the audere it started happening. The other preamp had noise too but not as much.
