Hi bassmaniacs

I got a set of mid 80's model j, is there a way to test them before i put them in my bass, using a voltmeter for example?

connect them up to an amp (either solder them, or just touch them to a jack lead).

Then the trick is to use a tuning fork. If you bring a vibrating tuning fork near a pickup you'll hear it through the amp.

You can use this trick during installation to check everything is working before you put strings on.

great idea...you can actually use a kitchen butter knife as your tuning fork...

solder some alligator clips to a spare jack and you can use this to test any pickups anytime...keep it in your "bag-o-tricks"

I just use an ohm-meter and check the DC resistance...but the amp test is way more comprehensive.
