If it's high-output because it's very high resistance, I believe you'll lose some of the top end of your sound (the more resistance, the more treble you lose). If it's high-output because it's active, the only problem will be clipping your preamp if you don't compensate for the hot output.

I use DiMarzios Split P and I must say I am very impressed with them. No hum (hum-cancelling) and good tone. My tone knob is also cranked up most of the time. The lows are good as well as the highs. You dont have to worry about that part. Sometimes it gets to bright that the 'pop' is a little snappy for me. It retians the growl that was present sith the stock pickup. I love this pickup to death!

I have the Split Ps as well. I keep them slightly further from the strings than most pickups to avoid distorting the preamp. I get tons of low end out of these pups, and a strong mid presense. The only thing I seem to be lacking is a sharp high end, but that is most likely my amp (Peavey Databass). I think the thing I love most about the Split P is how articulate they are. Every little nuisance is picked up by those rails, and you get sustain for days. Now if only I can get those highs working for me....

heh, nice to see there are so many dimarzio users around here. you know with all the SD and nordstrand trend...

anyways i find that these PUs hav exceptionally high output or did I put it close to the strings? Its even louder than my model 1 woofer at the neck.

i played my friend's ibanez soundgear and with the volume knobs at full its only about the sound of my split Ps at 1/2 volume

My Split P is on an Ibanez and maaan....What a lot of difference. I got mine from a friend who got it at Swee Lee. Pretty cheap prices there..Try lowering the pickup height to match the other pickup. I did the same..My bridge pickup was over shadowed by the DiMarzio..

To sum up what's been mentioned already, possible disadvantages are:
  • Too high output for your amp: that is, produces undesired clipping.
  • If you raise the pickup too close to the strings, it might pull intonation out of whack (if high output is due to high magnetism).

But I've used the high-output DiMarzios in the past and liked 'em!
