Are there Stacked No-Load pots?

Sign in to disble this ad
I like no load pots in my basses. I am currently building a completely custom PJ which I want to havwe everything I can think of with no compromises and do not want to have more than two holes in the body (for aesthetic and ease of use) and wanted to use one stacked knob for each pickup to control its volume/tone (again I like the way they look and it is easy for me to use).

The thing is that I have looked all around and can not find any no-load stacked pots. Am I the only weirdo that likes 250K no load pots? I really do not want to have to open the stacked pots up and make them no load like in this tutorial http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/pots.htm

. Is there an easier solution than that? Anyone have any ideas?

I use No load pots on the tone control of my guitar. Haven't tried it on my bass. I made my own by lifting the 4 tabs that hold the pot's back cover on and removing it, exposing the carbon trace. I then cut a line through the trace 1/16 of an inch from the "full on" end of the pot. Then put the back on and bent the tabs back in place. Works like a charm. I used a sharp razor knife to cut the trace.

You can do this with the stacked pots as well. They are just a little more complicated to take apart but I have done it.

As far as other solutions I'm not really aware of any.

BTW, you will likely have a hard time finding 250K/250K stacked pots. Most are 500K/250K or 500K/500K. So, while you have it apart you will likely need to get another 250K pot and steal the resistive element out of it to make a 250K/250K stack.

Stacked Concentric Pot, CTS, 250K/250K, With Nut, Lock and Dress Washer. Custom made in our shop and available virtually nowhere else! Please see our concentric knob sets below.

Looks like he is making them up himself form a 500K/250K thus the extra cost. You have to have the extra 250K element plus the time to assemble so that price is reasonable. I have done these on several occasions for people and I think that's about what I charged.
