I've been toying around with the idea of getting the ACG filter preamp. I don't know if i want to totally rely on a filter for my "pre-amp head" tone. Is there any outboard units with low pass and high pass filters (preferably pedal sized)? This way I could have both? I know I could probably rig something up if need be. but it would obviously be easier and possibly cheaper to just buy one if possible.

I'm not aware of anything in a stompbox form-factor that does true high pass/low pass filtering ...but that may just say something about my awareness of the current foot pedal market.

I do know that the closest thing to the AGC circuit in an outboard form factor is the Alembic SF-2 (aka the "Bass Superfilter"). The Alembic is actually more versatile than the AGC, but you can configure it to do exactly what the AGC does. They're both really good sounding devices.

And yes, I own both of them.

The Alembic is probably the best answer. There are loads of lowpass filter pedals, some resonant and some non-resonant; an example of the former is the Moog MF101, an example of the latter is the Markbass Super Booster. For a highpass filter, the only pedal-sized ones I can think of right now are in a tabletop format sold by modular synth brands/stores. Here's the closest example I could dig up on short notice: http://www.analoguehaven.com/vermona/crossfilter/ ...but there are definitely smaller ones out there. Just takes some looking through the pages of those mod-synth dealers.
