Can I put Fender Mod Shop SC Pups in my Squier Active Jazz 5? Will they be cool with the preamp in that bass or should I not even bother. I love the way it plays, but the sound leaves me underwhelmed every time. I'm hoping some new pups and maybe a new bridge will do the trick. Thoughts?

I don't see why there would be a problem.

I figured as much, but I know nothing about electronics. Plus I've never modded anything before.

So I found a good deal on SD quarter pounds, but they're longer than the original pickups. So I've got a carpenter friend who said he'd route the pickup cavities for me, but the local tech guy wasn't sure that the pickup would work with the preamp in the bass because the diagrams that came with the pups are all for passive wiring. Anyone ever put quarter pounds in a squier active jazz V before?

Your tech does not know what he is doing then.

As long as your preamp has a high input impedance, (1M or higher.) the pickups will work just fine with a preamp.

He just needs to solder the wires. I'm sure he can pull that off.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who have modded that bass with no issues.

Give your "tech" this diagram
http://www.squierguitars.com/pdf/cur...0V-Service.pdf

The Seymour Duncan pickups are passive, so he'll need to change the 25k volume pot to a 250k or 500k. For each pickup "Red+Black" should be replaced by the black SD lead, and the white lead stays the same.
