are these upgrades worth it? Yamaha bass overhaul

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, recently I've been GASing after a fender jazz but I've been playing long enough to know now that buyin cheap versions never fulfills that GAS so i decided i'd either get the fender jazz 24 or a new american standard, after playing a jazz 24 and faling out of love with it and pretty much deciding a 08 standard costs too much i'm faced with the option of upgrading my old 5 string yamaha bb605 which has alot of sentimental value and is a good bass gut not great, i mean a total overhaul. my list so far included:

new preamp - audere 4 band eq with passive tone and Z switch.
New pickups - atm im favouring the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz 5's.
New Hardwear - Hipshot A bridge and ultralights in black

The bass is gloss black with gold hardwear atm but its been played to desruction and the majority of the hardwear has either tarnished or worn through the finish, so i thought a fully black 5 string with such a powerful pickup/preamp system would be kool... I've always loved bongo's and this is kinda like my own little jazz pickup version of a bongo... I'm hoping i can get a nice jazz sorta tone by using the blend and tone pot aswell as having the option of leaving the tone open and using the 4band eq and z switch to go more aggressive and hifi since my playing covers alot of styles from church to metal music.

The total cost of these upgrades would be roughly £300 (including shipping from US!!!) so majorly cheaper than even a mim fender jazz over hear in the UK, but is it worth it? in your eyes?
