Thinking of upgrading.

I have a Schecter Elite-5 with the stock pickups, and electronics. I believe the pickups are EMG-HZ's. I don't know about the electronics. I was thiking about Bartolini for the new pickups, and guts. I was thinking about getting a 3 band onboard EQ. Anyone hotrodded a Schecter, and if so what kind of stuff did you put in it?

Anybody? It doesn't have to be Bart's, that's just what I was thinking. Any kind of suggestion is welcome.

I tried the bart's in my schecter e5 and thought they were brittle. But I didn't try the 3 band eq. That could make all the difference. I got the Nordstrand soap bars in there now with the stock emg eq. I love them. I run an out board rack eq though so I only need the bass controls for quick mid song changes. I don't know if any of this helps, but if you have any questions feel free to ask

I just found a thread with a very cool sounding preamp in it. I run a rackmount EQ in the effects loop of my amp as well. I messed around with it some today and got it sounding pretty good. There's still just a little life missing from the bass itself.

I'm kind of new to replacing stock hardware and stuff. Who much did the Nords run you? Did they fit fine in the exsisting PUP slots? A lot of the Barts I've seen have a 3 hole pattern, and if I remember the ones for the e5 only have 2. Thanks for the response.

I got the nords for $175 a piece from his website--Not sure if he still sells them there now but I am sure you can find them. They are 3 screw as well, but the screws are direct into the wood beneath so now big deal.

I am perplexed that you have a lack of bass from the emg's I thought that they were extremely heavy when eq'd to be so. My problem was the highs were just biting. Anyway--send a pic when you swap it.

Now that I reread what I said I can see how you would think I meant there's not enough bass. There is plenty there. I'm just not real happy with the overall tone of the bass. I'm not real sure how to put how it sounds, and what I"m looking for into words because I just recently started thiking about it not being exactly what I'm looking for (if that makes any sense at all!) The preamp I'll probly end up getting is a filter type. There is a thread about it here now, probly near the top of the page. What I'll probly end up doing is getting the preamp, then if I'm not happy try and figure out what it needs, and how to give it.

I just looked at the Nord website. Wha series of pickups did you get?

I got the DC5's wired in series. I got a deal on them. I think they are a bit more expensive now. I am sure you can find them though. They give me an awesome passive sound that is really quite vintage 'P'-ish. I think I have an inkling of the tone problem you had with the emg's. They have a very think mwah thing going on. Especially on the elite 5 with the neck through. I have the custom stilleto as well with the bolt on and honestly it is a whole different monster. Anyway, is the problem a lack of definition(clarity) in the low end? If it is I would try to find a pre with a tube. Honestly it doesn't need to be a fancy or expensive thing, check out the Art MP tube mic preamp. They are like $40 and really warm up the bass. I think you would be suprised what it would do even just running into your current amp set up.
