Last year I got to spend some time with Dave Wilsons Roscoe Beck 4 and since then I have been dreaming about getting a pair of those pick ups to put in a bass , these are some really awesome pick ups. Any idea were they can be bought ?

Yas they are! In fact, I think the Roscoe Beck signatures are the most toneful basses Fender makes. I bought a V and liked it so much I got a IV to keep it company. IMHO Fender got this one right! As to where you can buy the pickups, I don't know, but I'd like to know too.

I don't know if Fender sells the RB pickups, which I believe were designed by Bill Lawrence. Maybe he sells them separately. But Nordstrand sells something called the Dual Coil, which is a similar "double J" design. I bet you wouldn't go wrong with those:

Check out Bill Lawrence pickups in general. There's a reason he still gets demanding OEM work.

They look a lot like the Rio Grande Powerbuckers. I have no idea if they sound similar. I have yet to see much in the way of reviews about the Powerbuckers.

Here is Bill's number:

Toll-Free: 877-647-2651

You never know, he may have a set lying around...or he may be able to make you some....there is no mention of these on his website, but it's not up to date regarding products.

Worth a shot

i doubt bill lawrence would sell them outside of fender...he's probably signed an agreement...

however, if you get the specs...I'm sure there's a few companies and/or individuals out there that could custom wind you something very similar...

double J5 humbucker case single-rod pole pieces...either uses a bar magnet underneath or the poles are magnetised

my guess, is a single alnico V magnet connect the poles ...

you need to know if its 42 or 43 gauge wire and the DCR for each coil and you can make something very similar IMO.

That Tort pickguard on sunburst just looks right. You pushed me one step closer to doing it to my RBV.

Those RB5 pickups are pretty unique. They use different strength magnets for the lower and higher strings (don't know if it's actually different for each string).

You can read about the design here....

But it appears that the RB5 has been discontinued by Fender (it's no longer on their website), so perhaps Bill Lawrence would be OK to sell them directly now.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Sunburst and tort pickguards go together like cheeseburgers and beer!

Shame they discontinued the RB5; I've always wanted to check one out.

Mike

Wow, I can't believe they discontinued the RBV! It sure doesn't hurt the resale value, but I have no intention of selling either one of mine! Anybody know where I can order a tort pickguard for a RBV?

i, like everyone else , don't know where to get RB pickups, but I also don't know if you've checked out the 2004 and newer Fender AmDel Jazzes. They feature Bill Lawrence designed SCN pickups that sound great.

Could be a 2nd option for you if you haven't looked that way yet?

Strangely, that's the only one I've see like that. I bought it used at GC Peoria, AZ.
