So yeah, Delano finally released the new line of pickups, called ND. Weird oval shape. So its not a retro-fit, it seems like they believe its such awesome pickups that people will want to use on their custom basses

And they also have a pre-amp now...

Very strange.

Even if the guts of the pup where similar to the shape (which I doubt), they should have put it in a typical common housing if they wanted to sell the pup. It makes some sense to make something wierd if you're selling basses but none I'm aware of if you sell pups since they fit nothing. Wonder if a router template is included with the pup? I've yet to hear a mag pup that is grossly different from some other mag that would warrant some freak routing like that.

Hmmm?

Ya really. I sent off a email yesterday for more info. I haven't routed for my pups yet so I could be interested.

Those look ugly to me, but I'm wondering about the preamp.

I have been thinking of putting one of their mm buckers in my 6 string yamaha and I cant decide wether to get the pre or not as well

Could be cool. Maybe you could custom fit it into a Darkstar-routed bass, having to insert "filler" because of the oval shape. How bizarre.

I think they MUST have some bass maker planning to use it...

It dawned on me afterwards that my basses are the only ones I'm aware of that pup would drop in.

Apart from the shape I like that they were thoughtful enough to include a thumbrest. looks fairly comfy too.

Design-wise, looks like they're intended for MM or Lakland.

My reply came in from Delano.

Dear Brent,

many thanks for your inquiry.

The ND series pickup is a further development of our SBC soapbar range pickups, which was a 2 year work to develop.
This pickup preserves all the goods of our soapbar design but with an enhanced sonic range and a broadened magnetic window.

Hope to hearing from you soon.
Please let me know if there are any more questions.
Best regards
Reinhard Jedamzik

I have no expieriance with the SBC pickups.
Your thoughts?

Well, when i think about soapbars, i associate with boutique bass. Soapbars to me a have even, clean fancy sound. But...wow! Took 2 years of development for the guys that already had a lot of know-how!! That sounds über cool
