Thoughts on the Bart NTBT

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Atelier Z 5 bass that came with a Bart NTBT preamp. The treble center is at 10K and the low is at 30hz boost and cut.
My preamps in my other basses have 4 K treble and 40hz bass, boost only.(OBP1 and sadowsky)
I was wondering why my Atelier Z, which is really a nice bass sounded kind of harsh, thin and rumbly at the same time, with the preamp at center click, which is supposed to be neutral. It was much more noticeable direct into the board vs through my amp.
I figured out that reducing the lows to half way between "neutral" and off, and the treble just a little up from that makes, the instrument sound like more full range. It seems that neutral on the NTBT is at a 1/4 turn instead at 1/2 on both controls. As far as output, I have the internal trim pot all the way up, it is nowhere near what the OBP and the Sadowsky put out.
Could something be wrong with my wiring?
In the past, when I was still using Barts, I have tried to reach Bartolini to get some tech support with no luck.
Now that I have this bass that happened to have a Bart I'm not sold on keeping the NTBT in it.
I might still swap it out for a Sadowsky.I'm so used to passive pre's where you know what you are boosting..
What are your experiences with this particular preamp?

Hi, my pedulla mvp has the ntbt bart preamp, and i have a similar problem, though I'm comparing it to an old kramer forum 3 with spector picups and preamp. The output on the pedulla is a lot less than the kramer, though it sounds a lot more clear.
the other problem i have is that it seems to have very high gain. I can hear everything i do with my fingers while trying to mute the strings. i don't think the pickups are too high, i will try to adjust the internal trim pot, which i think controls the gain of the pickups and see if this solves the problem. But i'm inclined to think that low output is normal for the ntbt.

My GWB1 has the NTBT.
It has plenty of output.
I'm just not sure I'm crazy about a 2 band, and as you say, the highs are way high.
