Thumb 6-string pickup replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a 6-string Thumb NT and suspect there's something weird with the electronics. The middle knob does nothing at all. The others seem to work, but adding treble just produces hiss.

The lack of useable treble is a problem. I can't hear the attack and string sound of the bass. It doesn't cut through.

I've heard they put the frequency too high for the treble adjustment, and I also read somewhere that the trim pot inside can make a big difference in the mids.

Has anyone experienced the same and solved it? I'm thinking I could replace the pickups or the on-board preamp. Who makes pickups that are drop-in replacements for Thumb 6-strings? Anyone tried to replace just the preamp?

I really appreciate your comments and thoughts on this.
