Thump switch.

What was this? Basically I played a Gibson EB-2 and it has this switch on it. When you pushed it, the bass dubbled. Huge thump, the flats and bridge mute made it even better . I'm sure the bass was passive.

So what is it? Is the bass passive? Can I do this but with mids?

Thanks

From what little I've read, the "baritone/bass" switch on the EB-2 is actually a passive bass cut switch. So, one setting--the one you like, I expect--is the natural sound of the pickup, while the other setting is actually cutting out some of the low frequencies.

Gibson provides schematics for many of instruments including the EB-2 here: http://www.gibson.com/Service/Tech/Schematics/
