Sign in to disble this ad
so i ordered this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...er_25_7_6.html
it is 25' long (much longer than the 1 spot or anything else i have been able to find) so i can wrap it around my instrument cable and play my basses without batteries!

How often were you buying batteries?

Don't leave your cable plugged into your bass when not playing it.

I don't know about all active basses, but I know I have never gone through alot of batteries, they last a long time and I play quite often.

Ooh - at the price I pay for batteries it'll already have paid for itself! - in maybe 10 years ; }

why don't you buy rechargeable batteries? a baterry and a recharger is fairly cheap these days, and much more practical

Interesting idea, but kind of cheesy. I'll buy stock in Energizer.

rechargeable batteries don't have a constant current plus they tend to die faster

That is the dumbest product I have seen in a long, long time.

I could see using this for something stationary, but not an instrument.
I, too, will stick with good 9Vs.

Go passive, the tone is much better!

But seriously:

The Line6 Variax (guitar and bass models) connect to a power supply unit that supplies the guitar with power thru a TRS cable.

If this were me, I would do something along the same lines, rather than wrapping a power cord around your cable.

That cord doesn't look like it would take much abuse... step on it once or twice and I'll bet it's history.

I wouldn't mind seeing an onboard bass preamp with an XLR output and phantom power. Short of that, I'll stick with batteries.

Not really. It's made to replace the battery on a telescope.

I have been using active basses since 1985. Never had a battery go dead or even loose power to my knowledge. I change them every 9-12 months just in case.
Easy and simple!!!

I'm sure there is some kind of wiring issue with my squire deluxe active V. it goes through batteries even when its not plugged in.

Lessee.... five active basses with one battery each, change them once a year even though they've never shown any low voltage symptoms, or buy another cable that I gotta keep track of while on stage, and will need to swap out when I switch instruments on stage, AND add another transformer wall-wart to the crap I already have on stage... Plus the cable looks pretty small and therefore not rugged enough to survive things like guitarists stepping on it, cymbal stands cutting them, and being wound and unwound repeatedly. Nah, I'll keep buying Duracells.

But it is a cool idea for some applications, I just don't see it being an elegant solution to 9V batteries in my basses.
