Toby Pro 5 mod with TC3 ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been searched TB forum for ideas about Tobias Toby Pro. Quite a few people mentioned that the pickups (Mighty Mite P-style soapbar EMG40 shape) are actually not bad. Some of the owner wired the pickups directly to output jack and the sound is better than factory setting, just a bit darker since ther're no treble boost.

Would it be good if I add a TC3 preamp to it (thinking about vol-blend-TC3-tone route)

or would it more realistic to get a NTMB HR 4.6 A/P (which I consider now, but take more $$$$)

Qute from bestbassgear.com page

Bartolini TC3 Booster Preamp

The TC3 discrete preamplifier/booster with preset minimum gain of 12dB - can be boosted up to 40dB - for low to medium output pickups - 9 volt only.

The TC3 can be wired in a way that boosts the signal up 12dB without altering the signal. It also can be wired so that different parts of the spectrum are boosted using a potentiometer and it will boost up to 40dB.

A good application of this unit would be to use with a traditional passive bass that has lower output.

The wiring diagrams and includes from Bartolini are helpful in understanding all the possibilities.
