Tone with active pre

So I've been considering modding my Marcus Jazz for a while now and I was wondering if it was possible/a good idea to have a volume-blend-tone then a 2 or 3 band preamp. This way when the bass is in passive it is just a straight up jazz (I've never been a fan of the Marcus' passive) then if other tweaking is necessary there is the preamp (which I plan to replace too).

Also any suggestions on preamps would be helpful too but I more worried about the question above.

Thanks for your time

Yes it can be done, but it is not necessarily as easy as just putting the two systems in line with each other. I imagine there will be impedance issues if you just put them in series.

There are onboard preamps which have passive-style tone pots; the Sadowsky and the Audere come to mind.
