I have a passive PJ bass and I've been experimenting different cap values. I notice there is a lot of bass that comes through with the .022uf cap. I don't get that maximum bass with the
0.1uf and .047uf caps. Anybody know why the bass is so great with the .022uf cap? I thought the caps only affected the treble. all the pots are 500K. all the caps are Mallory 150's
It's a resonant peak. All passive tone filters have a small "bump up" of some freqs in addition to the larger cut. In the case of that .022, it must just happen to have a low-mid bump that sounds boomy and bassy.
had no idea cap values changed the tone so drastically. The P pickup is thumping through the walls and the J pickup mids are growling loud. It almost sounds like I installed a preamp. that cap is gonna stay for awhile. only cost $0.99
I still need two more caps, but I've been swapping them in and out with alligator clips, and I'm really happy with some of the tones I've been getting.

I really should order those caps today...
you should fit a .022uf in there. you'll be amazed at the sound
