Tone Capacitors: what value?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am rewiring and upgrading a P style bass.

My online searches indicate that .047 or .1 were used by Fender.

Can anyone tell me what affect the greater or lesser value capacitor will have on the tone?

BTW, I am using 250K pots.

Thanks,
Fred

0.047uF is the standard with most basses.

Higher values cut at a lower frequency, lower values cut at a higher frequency.

I run the stock .047uF and added another .100uF cap on a toggle switch to call it in/out as I need.

Using ROTOSOUND 77s, I get a really nice burp and thump outta this P Squier.

That's a total of .147uF and I think it's just right for what I need. I mounted the switch between the TONE and VOL pots and it's really sweet to have that extra deep cellar to run to for a solid thump and super groove.
