Hi, I have built up a custom (fretless) bass w/2 pu's, a Seymour Duncan Basslines Fat-Pole single (n) and a Wilkenson MM-style humbucker (b). It is passive. I have also incorporated a 250k pu blend pot. Now here's where I would like advice. It has only 1-V & 1-T pots, both 250k and a 104M tone cap. Overall, the output is a bit anemic w/more volume and weight at the full (b) pu (the humbucker) and to a lesser degree at full (n) pu (single). Center detent signal (both together) is weak in the bass/volume dept. I know that singles work best w/250k, and humbuckers 500k, so am I stuck between a rock and a hard place? If I replace the 250k pots w/500k pots would that overload the single? The humbucker is already louder than the single ...OR... should I replace the 250k blend pot w/a 500k blend pot? My guess is that's the way to go, but will that work w/the 2-250k pots, and will that beef-up the general output? As it is now, it sounds ok and has a nice variable tonal range, but the output (volume) is low overall, and is especially thin at the center mix of the 2 pu's. I was hoping for a nice big fat combination of the 2 pu's. I'd appreciate your thoughts on my project. |
