Tone Difference between a Quad and Split Coil

I'm deciding between Bartolini six string Quad and Split Coil pickups? Can anyone articulate the tonal differences between the two types of pickups? Thanks.

I have experience with quad and dual coils but not split, which from my understanding are P bass in a single pickup format. IME quad and dual sound very similar, I have both kinds in a few basses. As far as I can tell, the main differences are in configurability, not sound. The quadcoils have the option of being wired in a P or reverse P layout. I would think that the splits would sound like the quads wired with that layout.

So far the only way I've had quadcoils switched was a either dual or outer coils on. In that setting they function pretty much like split dual coils.

I tend to use mine mainly as full humbuckers, the sound is noticeably fuller than when running as single coils. On my Brubakers the standard 3 way switch is (quad or dual):
1. All coils on
2. all coils bridge, outer coil neck.
3. both outer coils on

Three very quick, very noticeable tonal changes.
