Which tone do you prefer?

I'm one of those player like the fat deep low end type of tone without getting too muddy.

I don't have time to try these settings out in a band situation and the bedroom testing won't do me any good, so i need to advice here.

Boost little low mid and cut some high mid and everything on the bass onboard EQ leave flat.

or

Boost low mid and cut all treble off on the bass onboard and everything else leave flat.

I just want a tone that leave the low end deep while the high still sound clear without everything really muddy in a band situation.

Here is my gear:

Bass:
Warwick Corvette with EMG jazz set and 2 band bartolini preamp and the bass uses DR Fatbeam

Fender Jazz bass with Dimarzio DP123 and J-Retro preamp and the bass uses D'Addario Chrome Flatwound

Amp:

Little Mark 250 and Ashdown 1x15 and 2x10 cabs

Other equipment:

MXR M80

I used to use Ashdown cabs and they are voiced with a mid scoop to my ears. I used to boost the bass and low mid (1 o'clock) on my LMII with everything else flat and VLE about 9-10 o'clock. Good solid punchy sound, but that's with a passive P of course, YMMV.

In reality you're going to have to find time and do it in a full band situation to find what works for you because you can't recreate that situation any way else. And live of course your settings will vary from venue to venue, but you need a starting point. Not what you wanted to hear I guess, but it is what it is.

Whenever I've used them they haven't really been bright enough to be what I'd regard as scooped, then again I've only used their tweeterless designs.

Anyway my experience with Markbass heads was that it's sounded best for me to crank the VLE to like 3 oclock and leave the other filter untouched, then I cranked a bit of low mid, a little bass and cut some treble. I kinda like a similar sound to be honest, I'd be edging toward using the Jazz if your after warm and old school sounding though obviously, the Warwicks attack might stop you from getting the sound your after (all Warwicks I've played or heard have had alot anyway).

Like EZ said alot of variables come into it, so alot of this kinda advice is often useless, but play about with cranking your VLE and mess about with cutting some treble and adding a little low mid with bass to whatever level you see fit.

With my Pbass through an LMII (actually a CMD121P) I have the bass, high mids and treble flat, the low mids at 1 oclock, the VLE at 2 oclock and vpf at 10oclock with the treble rolled off my bass. Seems to work for me.
