Hi,
I'm thinking of putting together a bass with Villex "stacked humbuckers" which look like Jazz pickups.
I know there's a built-in mid control pot but I am a preamp guy and ideally I'd like to use the Villex AND a preamp. I'm thinking maybe a 2-band (treble and bass only) preamp along with the Villex mid pot? Would this work?
How could I get it to work with a jazz style control plate (prefer 3 knobs but 4 would be possible if I moved the input jack to the side) suggestions
Thanks!

Thanks! | It will work. Initially, I did not remove the preamps from the basses I replaced the pickups with Villex pickups; later on, i realized that I was so satisfied with the tone of the pickups and the range of tones I was able to achieve by using the pickups and mid control, that I ended up removing the preamps from the basses. But it is possible to use Villex pickups AND a pre amp. As far as a 2 or 3 band EQ, i'd suggest the 3 band (the Villex mid-control is a unique functioning pot, but it will not replace the active mid control)

Also - what type of pot does the Villex have? Solid/split - just wondering what type of knob it would take.. ? Quote:

The mid pot is a split shaft one (not solid)

Huge bottom boost. But as most Villex owners will attest, the Villex's already produce a huge fundamental! I quickly found that the result of combining the two was a thick, undefined bottom end. Didn't sound horrible,, just sort of wooly and indistinct.
I just replaced the Villex's with DiMarzio Area J's. The two pickups couldn't be more different! The Area J's have a moderate output and a balance sound with slightly sweet highs - which work perfectly with the big Aguilar pre! I installed the Villex's in a fretless bass and it sounds fantastic!
