Villex: single or split coil?

Sign in to disble this ad
looking at a villex J/J setup and trying to find out the diff between the single and split coils (linear humbuckers).

wrote to villex and he claims that tone is the same for each.

price is not an issue - so i'm puzzled what the main differences are.

I assume that the splits will have higher output and be quieter and am leaning that way.

what would be advantages to going single coil?

planned setup is volume/blend/tone

Thetrustfall,

J/J won't be split coils, they will be linear humbuckers.

The tone will be the same; the fact that humbuckers sound the same as single coils is a unique feature of Villex pickups. Humbuckers will indeed be quieter.

If the price is not an issue, go for humbuckers. There are no advantages in going with single coils in case of Villex pickups.

The only possible scenario where you would benefit from having single coils is if you wanted to use them on a 4 string bass initially, and then use them on a 5 string bass. Humbuckers for a 5 string bass have to be made specifically for this purpose, since the two coils can't meet in the middle in this case.
