Vintage Fender Pot Question - 70's

Sign in to disble this ad
First of all, I'm not affiliated with this seller, but I did buy one yeserday because it just seemed like a good price, and I do need a replacement on one of my basses.

I just not sure what the 3Meg means. Is this the correct replacement for a '74 Jazz bass Tone Pot?

Thanks for the help.

I am not all that familiar with "vintage specs" and such, but 3 meg-ohms is REALLY REALLY bright.
A standard jazz bass uses 250K pots, and i don't believe i have ever seen any higher than 1M used in a guitar/bass

Whats up with the nylon shafts?

That's why I'm wondering. The nylon shafts are correct for that time period tho (that how mine are), just not sure about the 3meg thing... is it printed on the thing? I can't tell...

Thanks for the reply.

Nope, the stock pot was 250K for all the basses. They used a 1 Meg on the Telecaster guitar tone pot, and might have used 500K for the 'bucker equipped Telecaster guitars (Deluxe and Customs), but I don't recall now.

Definitely not a 3 Meg- with the usual Fender CBS caveat of "never say 'never'"...

Hey Groover,

X2 to JTE. I’ve got a ’75 Jazz, the cover has never been off it till today. It is a 250K with a nylon shaft. With a maple neck and maple fretboard that is as bright as I want to go even with flats.
